As a Great Commission ministry, Reel Life facilitates local discipleship and mobilizes believers to reach the world for Christ. We all need people in our lives, like the Apostle Paul, to help guide us to greater maturity. At the same time and equally as important, we also need a Timothy, or someone whom we are equipping in their relationship with the Lord. This is God’s command and design for each of His followers.
And Jesus came and said to them,
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
– Matthew 28:18-20
If you are a true follower of Christ and able to study Scripture and pray without assistance, you are ready to disciple new and untrained believers. The key is to step out in obedience and have a solid support network of mature believers around you. We are here to provide you with simple structures and resources to help you become more effective in equipping others.
On the other hand, if you are interested in exploring the claims of Christ, or a new believer interested in learning more about God’s Word, we are here for you as well. Or maybe you have never been trained in how to study and understand the Scriptures. We would love to come alongside and help you grow to become a mature believer who is “complete, fully equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:17)
“As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundred fold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”
– Matthew 13: 23
Through our Overflow Discipleship Initiative, we provide training, systems and structures to help believers become more effective disciple makers. Reel Life simply comes alongside the local church to encourage the people of God to engage with Him in His mission.
As followers of Christ, we have been graciously chosen to be His ambassadors, taking His message across the street and around the world. This is the reason we were created, and it is the highest and best use of our lives. Our discipleship calling does not end this side of eternity, as we are continually being equipped so that we may equip others. So the question becomes, what role are you willing you play?
Discipleship is simply coming alongside someone and helping to foster their spiritual development. It is equipping them with the tools necessary to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Biblical discipleship was best modeled by Jesus himself, where he taught his disciples and then went out and ministered alongside them. Jesus modeled life on life, obedience-based discipleship so that we might be complete, equipped and able to equip others for every good work which he has prepared in advance for us to do. (2 Timothy 3:17, James 1:22, Ephesians 2:10)
Discipleship takes place in many forms, but may be generally considered in two primary types, structured and unstructured. Most followers of Christ typically do well in unstructured discipleship, where others are relationally impacted and encouraged by our everyday lives. However, when it comes to deeper, more “structured” discipleship, we tend to fall short of God’s command to
“teach them all I have commanded.” (Matthew 28:20) This method of equipping is central to the Great Commission and takes intentional time and investment into the life of another.
“The Great Commission is not an option to be considered;
It is a command to be obeyed.”
– Hudson Taylor
The initial place structured discipleship should take place is within our own families, husbands with wives and parents with children. (Ephesians 5:25-27, Proverbs 22:6, Ephesians 6:4) But this is just the beginning, far from a life leveraged to multiply followers of Christ to which we are called. Reaching the lost and discipling new believers to maturity so that they reach and teach others in obedience to the great commission is the highest and best use of our lives, and one to which we should be most committed.
Reel Life works to help followers of Christ become more effective in reproducing themselves in the lives of others. If you would like to get engaged, have questions, or even like to be discipled yourself, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
