Most have heard about the epic flooding which occurred in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas in mid-August, but the severity of the disaster is much more significant than many realize.
Over 60,000 homes were seriously damaged in the flood, many losing most or all of their possessions. Including businesses, the number of damaged structures exceeds 100,000. In most cases, residents do not have flood insurance because they were not in flood-prone areas. Churches, schools and businesses have been destroyed, and families have been forced to relocate.
Reel Life has helped to mobilize teams to serve alongside church partners which are providing lodging and meals. We are very thankful for the many volunteers who have given their time and resources to provide supplies, assist with demolition and cleanup as well as helping to rehang drywall. Much has been accomplished, but the need will continue for many more months. Our church partners and many local residents are still seeking help, including elderly couples, widows, and single mothers.
If you have a small group of friends interested in serving for a weekend or longer sometime this fall or winter, please contact us at info@reel-life.org
