Have a Blessed Day!
Numbers 6:24-26
‘“The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’
Numbers 6:24-26
Have a blessed day! This is a fairly common expression, at least in the South.
I think it is helpful to reflect on what it means to be truly blessed and actually how blessed I am. This passage from Numbers is referred to as the The Priestly Blessing. This is how God told Aaron to bless the Israelites, His chosen people.
These verses reveal several aspects of what it means to be blessed by the Lord.
The Lord will keep you. It is all too easy to assume that our lives will carry on as they have been. Perhaps with some ups and downs, but we assume that it will continue nonetheless. Remember that it is God who sustains your life each day. “For in him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28)
The Lord will make his face shine upon you. While this sounds simple on the surface, it cannot be overstated the significance of God’s favor in your life. That God would bless us by making His face to shine upon us is of infinite value. Only by His light are we able to see the Truth.
The Lord will be gracious to you. God’s grace is at the heart of our salvation and is our blessing for each and every day of our life. As God’s children, we will live for eternity in His grace. And by His grace, we can live as His children even today.
The Lord will turn his face toward you. God has chosen to love you. He has turned His face towards you in grace, love, and mercy. As the Psalmist said, “What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” (Psalm 8:4) We are infinitely blessed to be chosen by God.
The Lord will give you peace. Believer, knowing who you are in Christ should give you peace. God has blessed you with it. Even in the midst of life’s difficulties, God’s unwavering blessing in your life promises peace.
Today, remember how God has blessed you, and have a blessed day!
