Jesus, Stay With Us

Jesus, Stay With Us

Luke 24:13-34

The account of the men walking on the road to Emmaus is full of amazement.  As the two men are walking along the road, they were talking with each other about all that had happened … that Jesus had been crucified and that he had been raised to life on the third day.

Suddenly, another traveler joined them and asked what they were talking about.  They were amazed that he didn’t seem to know about what had taken place.  As they tell him all about it, the traveler reveals how all Scripture was about Jesus.  How amazing would that have been!

As they continue to walk along on their journey, the day was drawing to a close and they were going to stop for the night.

As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther.  But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.

(Luke 24:28-29)

Amazing.  Jesus had just been raised from the dead.  He was in the first days of his resurrected time on earth, a period that would only last 40 days.  And He chose to spend that time with these men, revealing the Scripture and Himself to them, and staying the night with them at their request.

Note that Jesus was continuing on “as if he were going farther”.  Jesus had things to do.  Certainly, very important things to do.  But at the invitation of these men, he went in to stay with them.

I believe this points to a profound truth.  Jesus loves me so much that He will seek me out to reveal Himself to me.  Jesus desires to have a relationship with me.  And He will stay with me if I simply ask.  What an amazing friend and Savior we have in Jesus!
