The Abundant Life

The Abundant Life

John 10:10

Some think that being a Christian is supposed be boring … that becoming a Christian means leaving all of the fun things behind so that you can live an unexciting and joyless life.  Nothing could be further from the truth!

Jesus promises that the Christian life is the full life – the abundant life.  John 10:10 tells us, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.  I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”  Other translations render this “and have it in abundance”.

Being a follower of Jesus is an adventure.  It is exciting and fulfilling.  Why?  Because it is what we were made to do.

Perhaps you remember the movie Chariots of Fire which was based on the 1924 Olympics and two prominent runners—Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams. As the movie unfolds, we see that while both men are exceptionally gifted runners, a key difference is that Liddell is a Christian.  A memorable quote from the movie, Liddell states, “I believe God made me for a purpose, but He also made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure.”

Living the Christian life – all of life – can be for the glory of God and can fill us with godly pleasure because it is what we were made to do by God the Creator. Blaise Pascal put it like this, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man which cannot be satisfied by any created thing but only by God the Creator, made know through Jesus Christ.”

We were made by God for a relationship with God.  And we can have this relationship only through God the Son, Jesus Christ.  Embrace your relationship with Jesus and you will experience the abundant life!
