This spring I had the privilege to take a trip to Uganda with Reel Life and Sozo Children. This country has been a place God put on my heart when I was in high school so much that my friends and family always knew I would spend some amount of time there at some point. I went on my first trip this past summer, so I was so excited to return just a few months later. I anticipated seeing the same smiling faces and knowing exactly what to expect.I was very expectant and so grateful for the way the Lord showed me He is alive and working in my life through how He perfectly orchestrated this second trip.
My short, short 9 days there were a dream. To be back for the second time so soon seemed almost unreal, but also normal in a way. Seeing the faces of the precious kids smile and hug each of us as soon as we arrived to the house makes your heart stand still for a moment. During the week, our team got to visit the village where Sozo had started a women’s ministry and kids camp. We helped with the kids to give the women the availability to attend their bible study and have a safe place for their kids. I thought that was really cool and I appreciated the intentionality. At night we got to help the kids with homework and chores, help the house moms with dinner, and be a part of devotion. There is nothing like hearing prayers and worship in other languages, especially from the mouths of joy-filled children!
For anyone considering or hesitant about going on a mission trip, I would encourage you to begin to pray for the way God is leading you. If He is leading you to a trip, obey His call! There is nothing better than being right where God wants you, doing exactly what He has called you to do. I promise the joy He brings when you follow His commands trumps our fears and worries about any uncertainty that an overseas trip may bring. Practically, I would encourage you to talk with someone who has been on a similar trip. This can really help ease your anxiety about the travel, food, etc. It is the best decision ever and exactly what God calls His people to do- spread His truth!
